Eventually, more in the way of cloud has gone on to hamper today's final sunshine total to a certain extent. Nevertheless, a total of 14.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is still a fairly decent total, especially for a day which was supposed to be fairly cloudy according to the various forecasts.
I know that Richard has been praising the sunshine totals in his part of the world on one of those very rare occurrences where he has actually been happy with the weather in the area where he lives. What I have been reporting doesn't of course, match that. However, it should also be borne in mind that where Richard lives in Aberdeen is a lot further north than where I live here in Edinburgh.
At this time of year, hours of daylight get longer the further north (the reverse is true of course, during the winter when it gets darker, the further north that you go) that you go which means that you would expect the average sunshine totals to be higher in Aberdeen at this time of year, than they are here in Edinburgh due to those longer hours of daylight at this time of year.
This means that also the number of hours of sunshine which I have been reporting for here in Edinburgh hasn't been as much as what Richard has been reporting for Aberdeen, I would say that our sunshine totals here in Edinburgh have been just about as impressive under those circumstances which I have just described.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight were 14.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 14.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
