First of all, I would like to wish everyone from America, a happy Independence Day.

Anyway, it is dry and clear here in Edinburgh, Scotland (there is actually a town with the same name in America as well, although that was named in honour of the city here in Scotland where I live which is therefore, the original city with that name) just now.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 11.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Airport and a rather warm 14.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

This morning has seen some easterly muck being around, but without that ever being enough to blot out the Sun altogether and in fact, we are actually seeing more and more of the Sun as the morning wears on. This means that as at 8am this morning, a total of 1.4 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 10.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Quite cloudy but in a bright way, for now the 20.6 C feels so lovely and fresh since there is still that north east breeze. I appreciated this respite when I popped out this morning.

Feels so much fresher 16c with light rain here in Exeter - certainly didn't expect this to last all night and morning into afternoon.

More of a typical British summer's day for the first time in summer 2018.

Not that I am complaining - nice to have the indoor house temps cool down to 20c for first time in many weeks.

A completely sunny morning since my last report has led to a total of 5.4 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Some cloud has started to appear just recently but for now, this is no more than fair weather cloud which for now, doesn't look likely to hamper the sunshine totals during the rest of today. Nevertheless, that is still worth keeping an eye on anyway just in case that cloud cover does build up to anything more significant.

Nevertheless, it is turning out to be fairly warm despite that constant NE wind and the temperature at 12 noon was already up at 21.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 19.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's been sunny for most of today here in Edinburgh, but not any more as the clouds have now built up and turned the skies over Edinburgh back to that more familiar colour of grey which we tend to see in this part of the world during a more typical Scottish summer.

So far, a total of 7.2 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 3pm this afternoon, but with nothing at all in that department during the last hour.

It is fairly warm though and today will go down as the warmest day of this month so far at all three of my local stations as today's maximum temperature so far is 22.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

With that additional cloud cover though, the temperature has dropped a bit during the last hour and so,the temperature at 3pm this afternoon was 21.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Temperature looks like ti would have maxed out at 21c but over cast 0fdd spit of light rain then brighter skies - feeling fresh - makes a change to have a typical British summers day actually.
