We are about to enter what is a local public holiday here in Edinburgh which marks the beginning of what is known as the Edinburgh Trades Fortnight. That isn't taken as seriously nowadays as a people are a lot more flexible about when they take their summer holidays. However, the Edinburgh Trades Fortnight has traditionally been the time when businesses here in Edinburgh would take their summer holidays.

As far as the weather is concerned, the Edinburgh Trades Fortnight would be a period where we would expect a lot of decent weather as we are now going into what is real high summer. However, this particular fortnight has never really had a good record of delivering any sort of decent weather over the years and whenever we get any bad weather at this time of year, that is commonly known as "typical Trades Fortnight weather" because of that.

As far as this year is concerned though, it looks as though there should be no such problems this time and already, this first Monday of the Edinburgh Trades Fortnight is starting off on dry and clear note with the temperatures falling away as a result.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 11.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

6.2C was the minimum here just before 5am, nearly 10C now
It's interesting how wind drops out overnight but through the day is quite strong at times.

A change in the month and weather too. There was a lengthy but very light shower yesterday evening which gave the garden a damping. Three weeks ago I put some grass seed in a very small area around a new inspection cover for a drain and in spite of daily watering nothing.

Noticed this morning it has just germinated.

This morning another shower very brief. A comfortable night too after a warmish start. The sky is fairly clear, temp 17C and wind light variable.

This morning has started on a mostly cloudy note as it has been demonstrated once again that getting two back to back bright and sunny mornings (such as what we had yesterday) in a row is mostly asking for too much in this part of the world during this summer. The Sun is making a vain attempt to be seen through all of that muck but so far, just 6 minutes of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Those easterly winds are still in place as well and if anything, have picked up a bit more with those winds gusting up to 28.6mph from the east at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning. This clearly means that once again, the temperatures are going to be refusing to rise much during the day today in this part of the world, especially the closer to the east coast that you get.

Last night's overnight minimum temperatures were 11.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 13.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 13.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.
