Given how this summer has gone so far and given the latest model output, I'm not expecting this thread to get much activity, at least for now. However, there has been some forecasts going into this summer for the summer as a whole to be front-loaded with a deterioration during July. If this deterioration was to then occur during this month, I would then expect this thread to become much busier once that happened.

In any case, I have started this thread just now as it is customary to do so at the beginning of each month, just in case anyone does have anything to report here.

Here in Edinburgh, we have still to get off the mark for this month.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, today is the 12th day of the latest dry spell and for the botanic gardens, today is the 11th day of the latest dry spell with just 0.2 mm of rain having fallen on the previous day before that. This in turn means that an official absolute drought will be declared at both of those stations if there is still no recorded rainfall there by the end of this coming Thursday (5 July 2018) and according to the forecasts, there doesn't appear to be any question about that not happening as this country continues to turn increasingly into more of a desert.

As a reminder, here is the latest rainfall totals for here:

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this month's total so far is 0.0 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 55.6 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 323.8 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this month's total so far is 0.0 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 51.6 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 322.8 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

I actually managed 0.2mm of rain from a brief late afternoon shower. First measurable rain since 18 June.

I have recorded exactly 2mm of rain since the start of June.

Here, there has still been no recorded rainfall in Edinburgh during this month so far as at midnight, going into Friday 6 July 2018 which means that the totals for both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh remain unchanged since my last report on this thread.

The last recorded rainfall at Edinburgh Gogarbank was on 20 June 2018. The last recorded rainfall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh was on 21 June 2018 with that amounting to just 0.2 mm of rain. This means that we have now gone more than 15 days in a row with no more than 0.2 mm of rain being recorded on any of those days. That in turn means that we have now entered an official absolute drought at both of those stations.

For here in Edinburgh, this is now our second official absolute drought of the year which follows on from the one which ended on 1 June 2018. Meanwhile, the model output continues to show absolutely no signs of any rain in this part of the world during the foreseeable future which means that this could end up being quite a long drought ahead.

Almost had to go to page 3 to find this thread.

2mm of rain in 40 days now. That is remarkable.

The only time I have recorded something similar was from 31 March to 6 May 2007, a 36 day spell with zero measurable rain. Taking a 40 day period at that time the rainfall was 3.6mm. Between 10 March and 6 May 2007 (58 days) I recorded just 11.4mm. it is possible that record could be beaten if it stays predominantly dry for the rest of July.

Here in Edinburgh, we are now coming up to the end of day 20 of the current official absolute drought at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. I can't recall any other time (at least since I first joined this forum back 2016) when we have gone so far into any month without even a single drop of rain being officially recorded at either of those stations, as has been the case this month so far.

Most model output has the weather at least turning a little bit more changeable over time but if that earlier ECM run (the one which keeps the high pressure in charge for the foreseeable future) was to come off, we would then clearly be looking at this month being our driest July on record at one or both of those stations, and I wouldn't put it past that actually happening with the way that things are going just now.

Still nothing here and so this month's total at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh remains firmly stuck at 0.0 mm.

There was just a very slight spit of rain in the air when I was out and about a short while ago, and the latest radar maps even show a line of very light showers just clipping the East Lothian coastline. However, it is going to take a more than that to break this current drought which is now into its 22nd day at both of those stations.

Went 21 consecutive days here without any measurable rainfall but today a small and very localised stationary shower produced 0.2mm. Tomorrow could see nothing to torrents here - such is the nature of the convective beast!

Finally, we are underway for this month at long last although with the totals which have fallen being so small, they are probably hardly worthwhile reporting. Nevertheless, I can report that a total of 0.4 mm of rain fell during this afternoon at Edinburgh Gogarbank thanks to some showers, along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this month's total so far is 0.4 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 56.0 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 324.2 mm as at 10pm tonight.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this month's total so far is 0.2 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 51.8 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 323.0 mm as at 10pm tonight.

Last rain we had in the Slough/Windsor area was a 20 minute downpour on the 3rd of June. 41 days without any rain so far. Never seen anything like in my 40 years.

Even speaking to family in NE Scotland the two prolonged droughts so far since May are unlike anything anyone can remember.

A total of 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but along with nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that though, a total of 0.8 mm of rain has fallen during this morning so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 6am this morning, along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That in turn, officially ends the drought at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in its 26th day, and finally makes the whole of Edinburgh a drought-free zone with the drought in the rest of Edinburgh having ended last Friday.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this month's total so far is 1.8 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 57.4 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 324.8 mm as at 6am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this month's total so far is 0.8 mm, with the total for this summer so far standing at 52.4 mm and the total for this year so far standing at 323.6 mm as at 6am this morning.

Since the rain is still in the process of clearing away, the above figures for today might not be today's final totals.

Beyond that though, this week is likely to bring nothing more than just the chance of some further showers. These are always a hit and miss affair which means that the overall outlook could potentially end up being a very dry one once again.
