The month of June 2018 was a warmer than average month overall, a sunnier than average month overall and a drier than average month so far which all adds up to quite a decent start to the summer so far which is in complete contrast to last year's wettest June on record. Nevertheless, it wasn't as dry in this part of the world as it has been in most of the rest of the UK and since this was a month which was dominated by easterly winds, it wasn't as warm during the day in particular, than other parts of the UK.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The June 2018 mean maximum for my location is 23.25*C which is second only to 1976's legendary 23.7*C in records 1957-2017.

The cooler nights in the dry air prevented a record high mean minimum but at 11.6*C, it's in the top 5% of years and only 0.1*C short of last years' record. 2nd warmest year following straight on from the 1st? Extraordinary!

The overall mean for June 2018 is 17.4*C, which like the mean maximum is only topped by 1976 which came in at 17.6*C. 2018 is closer to that year than the max thanks to the mean minimum being 0.1*C higher.

So 1976 retains the heat crown for June, but by a perhaps surprisingly small amount given the record-long run of 30+ daytime highs that month saw.

Sun hours finish at 275.5, in the top 10% of years. So not as impressive but still pretty good going.

Rainfall is a different story; it finishes at just 2.1 mm, a record low and barely more than a third of the previous record of 6.7 mm set in 1962!

Apologies if this has already been posted:

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/2018/june-end-of-month-stats

"When looking at daytime temperatures the UK average for the month was 19.9 C, the same average maximum daytime temperature as in the June of the still talked-about summer of 1976, and placing it joint second (in records dating back to 1910) just behind 1940, when 20.6 C was reached.

It has also been a very sunny month and for the UK as a whole, with provisional figures showing it is the 4th sunniest on record behind 1957, 1940 and 1975 (figures dating back to 1929).

It was the fifth sunniest for Northern Ireland and England, third sunniest for Wales and fourth for Scotland."

If you look at my statistics for Edinburgh Gogarbank on the opening post of this thread, you will probably be able to see that to a certain extent as this shows the highest temperature of the month at Edinburgh Gogarbank to be higher than what it was at the botanic gardens, due to the closer proximity of the botanic gardens to the east coast in comparison with Edinburgh Gogarbank.
