The sunshine has now reached us here in Edinburgh and even better still, there is none of that high cloud which has been around for the last couple of days so we now have lovely blue skies and loads of sunshine for once.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The sun is just starting to break through this North Sea clag at this end, I'm surprised it actually reached 19 C at all after a morning of overcast skies and a moderate north east breeze.

This is just like the early Summer of 2013 all over again. West is best while we have our own Newfoundland-style climate.

Coast to Coast: 29c in Blackpool now. Meanwhile 13.6c in Bridlington. I hope people heading for the coast in these parts have chosen West today.

For now, the Sun is still shining here in Edinburgh but looking out from I am though, I can now see some more of that North Sea muck out over the Firth of Forth which is looking ready to pounce in this direction as soon as it gets an opportunity to do so. That in turn has already caused the island of Inchkeith which I would normally be able to see without any problems from my front window to disappear into it.

This could end up being very frustrating indeed in terms of the sunshine totals at Edinburgh Gogarbank where just another 2.9 hours of sunshine were needed as at 2pm this afternoon in order for this month to then end up being sunnier than average at that station. For to happen, it only needs to stay completely sunny up until 5pm and yet, this easterly muck could yet scupper our chances of seeing that happen today if it manages to muscle in on the action before then.

Low cloud covers the sky here, albeit thinly with a suggestion that the sun will burn if off quickly.  We shall see.

The satellite image shows a large veil of cloud extending almost as far as the west coast in the Severn Estuary!

I imagine the sun will make short work of much of it! Will be interesting to run the sequence by around 11am this morning.

Glad to see the cloud has returned here - even though it burnt off eventually yesterday, it meant it wasn't 30C+ indoors when I got home. A lovely night's sleep was the result!

Cloudy again this morning, hopefully it'll linger well into the afternoon again.

When I went to bed just after midnight, the easterly muck had rolled in here again. Because of that, I had expected another dull start to this morning since that is what normally happens in this situation under an easterly in this part of the world.

However, that is not what has happened this time and to my surprise, I have woke up to a bright and sunny morning with the data from Edinburgh Gogarbank and Edinburgh Airport showing that there is no longer a consistent flow of air from the east which we had over the last few days.

It therefore looks as though the area of high pressure which has given us all of our dry weather has perhaps, drifted a little bit southwards during the night which would then have been enough to cut off that easterly wind and thus, allow us to enjoy a decent, sunny morning for a change (something which we've not actually seen all that often during this summer so far in this part of the world).

The vile, putrid permacast has settled on London again. Is there any end to this sick joke that is supposed to be London in summer? Even 2012 was better than this filth. Etc etc

Here, we have clear blue skies with plenty of sunshine just now. It's also not too hot here and for now at least, we don't need to worry about any smoke from any nearby bush fires.

Diabolical here today. Cold with thick overcast that is not going to shift. Worse still it is extending far inland which cuts off the escape route with the weekend coming

Just when are these relentless easterly winds going to run out of steam?

The clag/haar/fret, call it what you want...it's soul destroying and has given us a cool and dull Friday. 14 C max so far at 1400

A day for indoor jobs!

Don't forget as well, the temperature of 14ºC which you have quoted is also the same temperature which was recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh at 1am this morning and so, that in itself just indicates how much the temperatures have just been refusing to rise during the day today (perhaps they need a massive hammer from underneath to get them to go up).

As I write at 3:42pm, there are just a few tentative signs of it starting to brighten up a bit with the odd spot of blue sky starting to appear through this easterly muck here in the north of Edinburgh.

But I don't envy the dreadful climate that you have to endure, especially in an easterly dominated period like we're getting now. It's amazing that in nearby Glasgow it's 24C today, and a bit further down the road at Prestwick Airport it's 28C

Then when the west of Scotland doesn't get all of the decent weather, we then go back to normal service resumed yet again with most of the good weather then being in the south.

In the end, that leaves very little of that at all for here which in a so-called "decent" summer such as what we are generally experiencing just now, is just unbelievable.

Did clear about 4pm here but bizarrely, given the sun is still fairly strong at that time, had minimal effect on the temperature. It rose from 14C to 15C

It's back again but broken rather than full overcast. The most worthless weather there is
