Our lovely weather goes on even into tonight because although it is the middle of the night just now, we have a bright twilight skyline here just now with barely a single cloud to be seen anywhere.

Having said that, we are reminded that it is actually the middle of the night by the manner in which the temperature is dropping away just now under those clear skies but even at that, it's not actually quite as chilly as it was at the same time last night, even though this was forecast to be an unseasonably cool night in a lot of places.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 9.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

If there is one thing which is prevalent with our local bus services here in Edinburgh, it is that I can often wait for quite a long time for a certain bus and then discover that two of them come along at the same time.

It seems as though bright and sunny mornings have followed that same analogy here in this part of the world as well because after going for such a long time without a decent sunny start to any morning, we now have the second back to back completely sunny morning in a row with 2.3 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night was another unseasonably chilly night with overnight minimum temperatures coming out at 7.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 7.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 11.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

What a gorgeous morning, fine & clear with unbroken sunshine and already reaching 18 C despite wind coming in from the north (but then again, it feels cool and fresh under onshore winds anyway).

And I can enjoy it like actual normal people who lead normal lives (as in, not spending all day working under glass).

Overnight low (just before sunrise) of 2.3 degrees here (in a valley in rural Hampshire) - elsewhere in the south, Benson was in the 2's as well, so I don't think it's too far wrong. Fluffy white clouds and deep blue skies now, 17 degrees and 1031 hPa. Beautiful.

A sunny morning has resulted in 6.3 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. However, there is a layer of medium level cloud which has built up recently, which is now threatening to bring us back into our all too familiar June permacast hell. So far, that hasn't any impacts on the sunshine totals at Edinburgh Gogarbank up until now. With that cloud cover in place though, we could well end up struggling to get any more additions to that sunshine total during this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 16.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

I know that this is slightly off-topic since this thread is for dealing with current conditions as they are just now.

However, I can now confirm that a total of 14.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for yesterday at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That makes yesterday the sunniest day of the year so far not just at that particular station, but for both there and Edinburgh  Gogarbank combined since that total beats the highest total of the year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank which was set during May.

However, that is unlikely to be the case today since the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is not likely to as unaffected by this latest layer of cloud as what Edinburgh Gogarbank has been until now.

Another vile summer day. Grey, cool and ridiculously windy. The wind the last couple of days has been every bit as bad as from Storm Hector last week. Horrible to be outside in so I cut short my lunchtime walk. I would say it was the worst feeling day since early April. 14C apparently but feels more like 10C.

Looks like a repeat tomorrow as this turgid, depressing spell enters a third week. Less than 4 hours sun per day over the last fortnight, which is early October levels, and barely any higher than the same period of June 2012 managed

A lot of the cloud from around lunchtime cleared away but some of it continued to be around at times. However, there was still some good spells of sunshine as well during the afternoon and evening so that in the end, a total of 11.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperatures were 18.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 13.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 14.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
