How good was the summer of 1959?

In weather terms 1959 was an unusual year. January was a very cold month, however, every other month during the year recorded temperatures above their average values. During the summer June was often dry, sunny and warm, although low pressure areas did bring some cooler interludes. July again saw a mixture of weather with low pressure areas occassionally tracking further south than usual, bringing less settled conditions. August was dominated by warm and dry weather as high pressure remained in control. During September and October an Indian summer set in, and temperatures remained on the warm side.
