Big freeze to continue The current freezing weather is expected to continue throughout the next week with many parts of the country having further snow. Severe overnight frost will also be an ongoing problem. The wintry weather is expected to cause considerable disruption, and is likely to the most severe cold spell to affect Britain for at least 15 years. There are some indications of less cold conditions returning during the middle of January, but at the moment it is too early to be confident about this. Brian Gaze for TheWeatherOutlook said, "At the moment there is no real sign of a let up in the freeze. Further widespread snow and severe frost is likely. During the middle part of the month there are some tentative signs of it turning less cold, but it is too soon to be confident about this. This may well turn out to be the coldest winter in Britain since the late 1980s, and possibly since 1979." December brought wintry conditions to much of Britain with snow falling widely. Although the cold has eased across most of England and Wales during the Christmas period, it remained bitterly cold in Scotland, and this has now pushed south again. TheWeatherOutlook's long range winter forecast issued at the beginning of December suggested the UK would have a slightly colder than average winter. Please contact us for more information.
