A few months ago, I experimented with AI to bring to life newspaper photos from the January 1940 freeze that I have collected. The results were somewhat mixed. At times, they turned out ridiculous with people suddenly appearing, shovels appearing in people's hands to clear the snow. Others really spooked me because they looked so real.

Very interesting - many thanks. I'd always assumed that wartime photos were censored to a large extent to prevent Germany realising the problems Britain was facing with weather. I would also have expected still photos rather than moving pictures - how much of the activity has been inserted by AI?

I hope you can do a similar exercise and publish for 1942 - a significant winter for me.

There was about a 15 day delay between the weather event happening and the newspaper publishing it.  At times, AI didn't needed prompts, it just saw the photo and it was obvious what to do. The young boy walking in the snow. Other times, it did need prompts, for instance laughably it had the train going backwards.
