I'd not play a tournament at all. I'd put it to a vote. At least that way Germany would never win it.

No striker again for Spain with Torres on the bench they are going to try and bore France to death. Benzema needs to turn up today, come on France do the world a favor.

Quite a few people here were writing off England's chances before the France game, but so far in this tournament I think they've exceeded expectations.

The increase to 32 teams that every WC has had since 1998 only increased the number of teams eliminated after the group stage, which I feel has done nothing to improve the tournament. When it was 24 teams, only 8 were eliminated after the first round with 16 going through to the knockout stage, so more remained in the tournament than were eliminated.

But you'll be happy to know that the next Euros will be 24 teams  with 6 groups of 4 and the 4 least shite losers will join the 2 automatically qualifying teams from each group

That means, of course, the addition of the [censored]y extra round before the QF's. Anything to squeeze some extra TV/sponsorship/corporate jolly cash out of the gravy train. Another bad point is that it reduces the chance of an upset with one of the big teams not getting out of their group.

It would obviously give countries with football standards akin to a English Sunday pub league a better chance to perhaps qualify. Teams like Scotland. And Wales.

Excerable is how I would characterise the first half.

Anyone out there who finds Spain 'entertaining' needs to give their head a shake.

French need to give it more of a go in the 2nd half. Benzema has looked good when he has had the ball, other than him France have been pretty poor Spain in 2nd gear for most of that half far to easy for them.

France pushing a bit now, but that last pass on the ball seems to always go astray.

Another very boring game from the Spanish, hopefully this style of football will cease come the end of this competition, both at club and international level.

Portugal to beat Spain in next round?, I think so.

I reckon England, Portugal and Germany could all beat Spain - it's just a question of using the right tactics.

As dull and boring as Woy's football is, I'll give him credit (so far) for ensuring that England keeps its shape during games.

The one way to beat Spain is to press their midfield into making mistakes and hit them on the counter. England have the wherewithal (and the pace) to do precisely that.

BBC pundits on England v Italy

England are expected to be unchanged for Sunday's Euro 2012 quarter-final against Italy in Kiev.

Manager Roy Hodgson is likely to retain Danny Welbeck as Wayne Rooney's striking partner and leave both Andy Carroll and Theo Walcott on the bench.

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini will miss the tie because of a thigh injury.

The Juventus centre-back, 27, picked up the injury in Monday's 2-0 group win over Ireland

with Leonardo Bonucci set to take his place against England.LAWRO'S PREDICTIONImage of Mark Lawrenson

"The best description I've seen of England at Euro 2012 is that they are the ugly ducklings and they have got through. It's true, because they have not been easy on the eye."

"The scan he underwent confirmed it's a strain. He will certainly miss the game on Sunday," team doctor Enrico Castellacci said.

"Obviously in a competition like this you have to try everything to have him back as quickly as possible but we will not take any unnecessary risks with his muscles."

Castellacci dismissed concerns that Chiellini's injury was a recurrence of the problem that had made him doubtful for the tournament.MATCH PREVIEW

Cesare Prandelli celebrated victory against Ireland by embarking on a 3am walk to a local monastery, keeping his promise that Italy's coaching staff would make the 13-mile trek if they reached the quarter-finals. They didn't return to their Krakow hotel until 7am, and could be in for another late night in Sunday's quarter-final, which won't finish until gone midnight (local time) if extra-time is required.

And with neither side boasting especially impressive penalty shoot-out records, Prandelli will no doubt hope for some divine intervention if the match is settled from 12 yards.

Many England fans will have celebrated avoiding Group C winners Spain, but in terms of international pedigree it's very much a case of what Italians call "dalla padella alla brace" - out of the frying pan into the fire. Four-time world champions, Italy may occasionally slip-up in the group phase of tournaments, but in the latter stages they are incredibly hard to beat.stats
