Pyroclastic flow on Mt. Etna earlier. Frightning to watch. I'm expecting Mt. Vesuvius to do something similar soon, probably around the time we'll be climibing it.

Another fissure has opened up in Iceland at the Sundhnúksgígar crater sometime in the early hours this morning. Most of the live feeds are all fogged out right now but found this clip.

RT reports that the Russian earthquake recently triggered a "stratovolacno" to erupt for the first time in 600 years. From my POV I'm hoping that might just mean we get to see snow for once this winter - every little helps!

"The Krasheninnikov volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula has erupted for the first time in modern history, after a massive offshore earthquake triggered renewed volcanic activity in the Far East, local authorities have said.

The eruption occurred at 4:50am local time on Sunday, sending a 6,000-meter ash column into the air from the 1,856-meter-high peak, according to the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT).

“This is the first historic eruption of Krasheninnikov in 600 years,” Olga Girina, head of KVERT, told RIA Novosti. She said a lava dome was forming on the slope, with strong steam-gas emissions and a steady ash plume rising from the northern crater."

I am guessing it was a direct lightning strike obscured by the dense smoke. Still, spectacular sight whatever might have caused it.

The time to start running was ten minutes ago! Or was that shot from an automatic  camera?

JAKARTA, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Indonesian authorities evacuated more than 900 people and were facilitating the safe return on Thursday of 170 climbers stranded after the eruption of its Semeru volcano, one of the country's tallest mountains.

The alert level was maintained at its highest after Semeru on Java island erupted 10 times on Wednesday, emitting massive plumes of ash and sending lava and rocks as far as 13 km (8.08 miles) down its slopes, officials said.
