Great show, but the colours tended to come out stronger on camera than to the naked eye.

For those that missed it a few points to make you feel better.

Conditions still look good for tonight!

Also the photos are slightly misleading, it doesn't look like that with the naked eye. Its still absolutely spectacular, but the camera shots are high exposure; to the naked eye you can still see the pillars but the colours are much dimmer.

It was still an amazing experience!

I didnt even know about this until I read this thread late last night but it was all over. What time did it happen? I was probably in the pub but nobody there mentioned anything.

Great Vid Bolty 👍

I'll be looking again tonight. It was pretty special to see but as many have said it is different once you use a camera on it, than just plain eyesight.  I could see light streaks, across the sky, and vaguely see the shocking pinks/reds, but once I had my phone in camera mode it sure made a huge difference.

Astonishing. Seeing red on these charts is rare enough, but 24 hours of it? I've never seen that before!

It is impressive! I've never seen such amplitude/duration on AuroraWatch. Must be 20+ years since I actually observed a decent display. Driving north from Spalding after an evening lecture there we suddenly realised what we were seeing in the sky ahead. We pulled onto a side road and got out to look properly. The first aurora I saw was in Iceland in the late 70s. I was cleaning my teeth outside the tent before turning in and suddenly saw what was happening above me. 😲 Memorable. It's the movement of the "curtains of light" that's so dramatic! Went on for a good while too.

Pro tip, if you have eclipse glasses get them out and look at the sun.

Bottom right, you can see the monster sunspot that caused this! Its 15x the size of the earth and just visible to the naked (protected ofc) eyes.

Went up to Epsom Downs tonight, was busier than race days 😂

Nothing forthcoming, just the smell of weed drifting across the golf course and too many twerps paying drum and bass.

Gutted. Missed ‘87 as slept through it and went to bed last night at 8.30 after 27 holes of golf and a little too much sun (the irony!)
