We’ve been in Sheffield/Peak District the last couple of days and I can confirm it is/was unsettlingly hot.

Luckily we capitalised on some of Sheffield’s superb sheltered river valleys to escape the worst :-)

Nice display of mammatus at the moment here. Not as impressive as the evening of 25 July 2019 though, that was apocalyptic.

Looks like Waddington has been discounted by the met office.  Apparently the upkeep of the ground around the site to blame.

It remains hot and overcast. After such a breathtaking day the house is at 30C upstairs. Tonight will be more uncomfortable than last night I think.

Waddington has been overlooked by the Met Office for some reason despite tying for the lead!

Temperature holding up at about 26C which still feels warm and isn't providing much relief indoors. I was expecting a bigger breakdown. Looking forward to getting a bit of air in the house tomorrow

Can see lightning flickering away to my south west as a line of rain move slowly and painfully north east wards over the Channel. Still a hideously swampy 27 C & 57% H but a decent westerly breeze is in progress.

Still a hot 30C here at 10pm.    Despite the radar showing rain here, it's completely dry at the moment.

I have to say considering we got to 40.2C before 1pm, ending up with 40.3C was a bit of a surprise.

Just stepping back and reflecting for one moment.

40C is one of those things that you wonder might happen, but assume probably won’t. That it has happened now in 2022 is quite incredible.

I can’t think of any weather event or threshold in my adult life as important as this one: not the snow of 2010, or the record and 100F in 2003, or any storms, floods or droughts in the last 25 years, and we’ve had a fair few. This is so much further beyond the normal range than anything else I’ve experienced.

40C. 40C!
