Lots of talk on social media about the possible Atlantic megatsunami that the scientists say could happen if the island was to split and cause a landslide into the ocean. Very low risk though. 
It was a brilliant Horizon programme about the risk. If you like 'disaster porn' then it was great viewing 
Fortunately - or unfortunately if you prefer - the thesis has been debunked. Firstly, the chance of a huge chunk of La Palma sliding into the ocean is miniscule. Secondly, even if it did the resulting wave wouldn't be anything like the size the thesis claimed, and would largely dissipate before reaching the Americas.
