Amazing! 😀

I'd move house.

I think the claims that the source of Covid-19 being from a laboratory is just rubbish IMO.

It probably is rubbish but I don't think that should distract anyone from the crucial point that it is only a matter of time before a lab leak causes a serious incident. You only need to look at the stats to conclude the chances are extremely high. Whether Covid 19 was from a lab or not it should be a wake up call on biotech regulation.

A direct result of HMG policy to reduce hospital deaths. Even Maunder couldn't defend this

Knee jerk responses are all very well, but without the full facts we cannot know what is behind it. Sweden has a worse record than the UK on that particular topic. There will be a full inquiry into what occurred and why - let's not preempt it.

In the meantime, I am 100% behind Trump on this topic:

As furlough payements are still being made there will never be a full rush back to work and employers are going to call people back in a hurry , when payments stop is probably when you will see people reluctantly going out.

On another note , its ok people saying " crack on and get out there " I have seen my uncle who is now home but still rough suffer from COVID and a colleague who is at home and still poorly - so I understand the fear of some - me , well I make sure I take all the precautions , its others you have to worry about .

As tragic as this is, it’s nothing new and neither is the fact that the virus is so deadly to the elderly and those with underlying conditions.  It’s therefore not unreasonable to expect care home residents to be doubly vulnerable, as they’re generally there for those two reasons.

For this obvious reason, the emphasis is that care homes need shielding and protecting by every means possible.

HMG didn’t do this though. They sent people back into care homes putting them at heightened risk

If it can go wrong it will go wrong ... We had a fot-and-mouth outbreak in this country in 2007 because the drains at a Research Institute leaked.

The source of the strain released and contained in Surrey in 2007 was the advanced effluent pipes from either the Institute for Animal Health or the similar vaccine researching and producing Merial Animal Health laboratory near to Pirbright village in the county – the pipes were too old and/or insufficiently inspected given their importance. An inspection of the effluent pipes and manholes carried out for the HSE investigators showed deficiencies and the independent investigation of Professor Brian Spratt concluded that it was very likely that they occasionally leaked still-infectious effluent at the time of the outbreak. If people get sent back to care homes from hospital, it’s because the hospitals can’t treat them and they will get the nursing they need there.  Sending them back doesn’t make them more vulnerable.

John Edmunds, professor of infectious disease modelling at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said evidence from survivors of Sars (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, a different form of coronavirus) suggested immunity-giving antibodies reduced over time.

"So that's potentially bad news for us, that immunity may not last that long against this virus," he said. [Source: BBC]

Part of The latest from around Europe
From BBC news ticker:
An EU agency which monitors infectious diseases has been accused of underestimating the virus threat. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) considered coronavirus low-risk when it met on 18 February, just three days before the outbreak in northern Italy made headlines. Spain’s El País newspaper reports that the agency made no urgent recommendations for special measures and concludes, citing other medical experts, that it did not respond robustly enough.

Who would of thought, eh?

I agree with this guy. IMO the dash to restore the tourism industry in continental Europe is a disgrace. Sadly it looks like the UK is getting on the bandwagon too.

Source: BBC
The head of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, says it's still too early for Europeans to be planning summer holidays abroad. German and EU officials have spoken optimistically about restarting tourism and easing border controls. But Mr Montgomery told Funke Media “the new relaxations among European countries make me very worried”

Yes, collective madness going on. The logic is presumably if Greece open for business, Spain don’t want to be left behind etc etc. It strikes me that people of all nations should have ‘staycations’ this year and support their own economies.

Applies only if you can be sure that any patients so transferred are free of the virus. Otherwise care homes would and have emulated cruise ships in spreading infection.

Where were the etsts then?
