I fear that you're right. Obviously, the holiday in itself doesn't matter a damn. The point is that if my holiday doesn't go ahead, that means that tourism is out the window for pretty much the world. That in itself eliminates so many livelihoods.

I’m afraid I agree: I’d say the chances are close to zero. Countries will still be trying to contain this and I doubt they’ll want foreign tourists who might bring Covid-19 with them. Then of course there’s the issue of how much will still be shut down.

I’m beginning to think that the end of the tunnel is a year away, although hopefully some controls will be eased down over time. For me it’s next autumn/winter in the northern hemisphere that’s the next big risk.

I am due to go to Puglia in July but I doubt v much if it will happen. I’ve already told the kids that it is v unlikely

For the countries where tourism is a very significant proportion of the economy the situation is even more dire than ours.

I don’t know what game the BBC are playing here,be it Tim Martin yesterday and now this piece on the modelling (which just happens to come the day after a major lockdown), but if they have a grudge against HMG this is not the time to run with it. Twitter is already full of ‘why are we locked down, they have the numbers wrong’ from today’s piece. I have read it and to be frank it is an opinion piece at most,but to be perfectly honest the only thing people will get from it is the top line of ‘are the numbers right’. BBC stop playing games, this not a game (look at moomins post).

The SK situation does show that containment is just that. Its slows it down but you cant remain locked down for long periods until the vaccine is ready

Locking down for a year would probably kill many more than the virus itself in terms of shattered lived and mental breakdown

I'm a bit confused , not hard I know but I have just heard on the radio that Sainsburys will have an hour for the elderly between 08:00 and 09:00 M W F but aren't the elderly isolating?? 

Also just been to get fuel and a bus FULL of people on going into town , why the hell aren't bus companies limiting the amount of people they are carrying ?

Its the bus companies I blame ……..but to answer your question BLOODY WALK in the fresh air , town at the furthest point is 30 mins away

I am sure that for most young fit people a 30 minute walk is not a big deal. Many bus users don’t fall into that category.

There are almost no countries left which could be self sufficient. The advanced western economies are ALL dependent on their neighbours and cross border logistics. The dependencies are diverse and critical. Tourism is an early and obvious problem but what happens when machine parts, raw materials and fuel supplies get affected by supply chain disruption?

Resilience is necessary but we've effectively engineered it out of modern commerce.

The UK was already headed for painful isolation but, on it's own. Now I guess, everyone is in the same boat.

Think it will be groups already mentioned. I am in one of those groups, but it is not a visible vulnerability so where does that leave people like me? All well and good making stores open purely for these groups, but surely that is against advice to keep away from others? We are not self distancing like Spain is in their supermarkets. 

Still does not alter the fact the bus company have a duty of care - or doesn't social gathering count on a bus or is there a time limit that social gathering covers??????????
