Double checked.. They will only test you (at the moment) if you have been in contact with someone known to have the virus or you have symptoms and have come from a "hotspot".

For whatever reason, it is 3 or 4 days for the results likely because of the number of tests that are now taking place.

The announcement by our government to close schools has caused a bit of a stir here. Popped up to our local supermarket a little earlier. No pasta and few potatoes left while a shop assistant was busy restocking shelves to replenish toilet roll stocks. The queues at the chek outs were similar to what you see a day or two before Christmas.

I don't get why people are in a panic about toilet roll. After all, if it's as bad as all that, we'll run out of food too, so no need to worry about toilet roll.

Can't vouch for the authenticity of this, but someone I work with has been speaking with someone with senior links to the Govt.

They said that next week there will be emergency legislation passed through Parliament to close schools from next Friday, along with some other draconian measures. They are trying to downplay the chances of taking such extreme action in order to delay panic amongst the population. They figure that by next Friday, there'll be just 2 weeks until the Easter Hols, so minimising disruption whilst having a 4-week period of no schools and curtailed public events.

I can see the logic in this.

Dipping in and out of this thread so apologies if this has already been reported but stock market once again in freefall. FTSE 100 down 9%, DOW down 8%. Nowhere left for interest rates now either.

  That’s pretty much how I think they’ll play it!   It makes sense to extend Easter holidays rather than having stop/start school.  I’d be hoping they don’t have to close schools until the end of Easter hols though, rather than before.  Have all April off then the weather should have warmed up by May and will hopefully stem the spread, although I don’t think there’s real evidence that it will.

Thanks, it sounds bad like Nick says. Also (as others are saying) how are we testing then for intra community transmission? Why are we not following the WHO recommendation to be testing everyone with a fever?

I sincerely hope the govt gets lucky as it starts sounding like a big cock up.
