A torrential pulse has formed just off the coast, and is now moving in with rates capable of dumping up to half inch of rain every 6 minutes or so.

Extensive surface water. Flash flooding risk quite possible in areas with hills, but here we're just flat so lots of huge puddles, and flooded roads.

Edit: Rain radar shows cores now 96-124mm per hour

In the last 20-25 minutes from 16:55h to 17:20h the intensity has increased considerably to around 80-90mm/h again.  In the gloom I can just about make out the edge of the rain band as it passes to the north of me between Tonbridge and Sevenoaks.  Looks heavy.

It looks clear enough at the moment and in the end, a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, it is still very windy here and at 8pm this evening, the wind was still gusting up to 39.1mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As a result of that, the temperatures are refusing to drop just now due to there being too much wind around.

With that in mind, the temperature at 8pm this evening.was 7.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
