I think it was Buxton not Colchester. Still remarkable but Buxton is about 300 metres asl.

Use of the word "winter", which implies a season as common in England as winning the world cup ....

It was Buxton that snow stopped play not Colchester and it was June 2nd not the 6th. By the 6th it had turned hot and sunny. Quite a remarkable week weather wise. And we even had a referendum on EU membership that week too!
