When they come to write about this summer and how it compares to the great summers in history this is a significant stat. Whatever happens now 2018 is right up there with the likes of 76.

I agree; one of many memorable features. The lengthy dry spell through June and most of July should feature, but also the length of the summer. The extended summer (May to Sep) resounds in the history books in years like 1949, 1959, 1989, and of course 2006; I think this one could top them all. It could truly be the proverbial long, hot summer.
