Is your heating on yet?

Mine has kicked in a few times in the last week. It's set for 20c

We turn the heating off completely in the summer. It’s touch and go whether I flick the control over to ‘On twice’ (morning and evening) this week.

House temperature dropped quite sharply over the weekend, especially after the chilly Saturday night and a mostly cloudy and cool Sunday.

Last week the living room temperature nudged down below 20C and then dropped over the weekend to 17.7C by Sunday morning. Nudged back up later in the day, I'm assuming mostly due to human/home application generated warmth and was back up to 18.4C this morning after a mild night. 

We are just about comfortable with those sorts of room temperatures and with more sunshine and warmer weather returning I'm hoping we can keep the heating off for another week at least.  

Yep 1 hour morning and evening on the timer. 

I tested mine yesterday and all good.

A heated throw is a good way to stay warm when saving on central heating.

Central Heating on now?

 Got 90 year olds staying in b&B atm and wifey asked if they needed heating on . No was the reply , far too early and not cold , just put a cardigan or jumper on .

Bit more sense to that generation.

Ours won't be on for a while yet - I tend to view 18c plus as fine as long as you wear jumpers etc. and we won't get lower than that for a few more weeks at least. 

I've also got a wood burner, so use that before heating anyway, though even with that I rarely use it before mid October unless we get some noticeably cool days/nights or a prolonged lack of sunshine. 

With a south-facing aspect, the house soon warms up; currently 24.1C in the living room, 20.6 C outside.

In addition I have solar hot water which means in practice that I don't switch the boiler on at all from May to September inclusive, and not very much for a month either side of that. After several gas meter readings of zero this year, my supplier (EDF) got in touch as they were worried that, as a 'vulnerable person', I was unduly economising on gas; and did I need help with payment? Having been put right on that, now they're worrying about how to distinguish zero usage from a faulty gas meter.😂

My first thought when I got to the zero meter readings was exactly that: sorry sir, your meter appears to be malfunctioning….

It’s currently 16c here and barely 20c in the main living room; strong winds find a way through the very tiny gaps in the barn walls.

Yes, I’ll be using the wood burner soon if these cool evenings continue.  Just waiting for a survey of the chimney at the request of our new insurers, even though it’s a new liner.

Ours came on briefly early on Saturday morning when the temperature dipped below 16°C. 

Not yet and yestereday was the coldest day for indoors and the conservatory that did not go above 20.8c since March 25th when it was 17.8, after a long hot summer indoors.  Felt very chilly at 20.8C and rest of the house 20-21C after getting used to mid to high 20's and high 20's to low 30's in the living room.  Today more sunshine so brought back to 31.7c and 27.2 living room now so this coming Friday will try to get much warmer to store warmth before the northerly cold shot arrive.  I hope on Friday to see 35-37C but if skies very clear and sunny possible 38C 100F for the last time. 

Currently pleasant comfortable 21-23C inside while the conservatory cooling down as I closed the doors at sunset time to 20.5C.  

It went on, on Friday. 🙂🙂🙂. I was hoping I could get through to October. But no way. It's on now in fact.  🙂🙂

Maybe early next week? Will probably put it on just to make sure all running ok before the colder weather sets in. 

Have fired up the living room's electric fire last night. Didn't take long for my 11.5 years old black puss, Jet, to pick up on it.

It is said that dogs are great for finding water, and cats for finding the coziest spots. 

The small unit which is sitting in my hall right next to my front door, and which is connected to the smart meter for my electricity has an inbuilt temperature gauge and even though its cooler than of late outside, that is still showing an indoor temperature reading of 20.0°C.

This means that even though it's cool enough outside now for me to have to wear a jumper when I'm out and about, I then always have to take that jumper off again when I come back inside because it's still too warm in here for that.

That is on a cool day as well with my heating still switched off, so you could just imagine what it would be like in here when the weather is much hotter and that is why I was sweltering so much in here in the summer months, as I mentioned on so many occasions elsewhere on this forum during those periods.

Surprisingly the house felt very warm to near hot for this time of the year and despite outside colder but with lot of sunny spells and sharp clear skies allowed temps to go to 29.7c living room, 24-25c other rooms and 32.9C in the conservatory.  My plans to put winter quilts are put on hold as it still to warm to sleep with it as we using the summer light cover.  With more sunny days to come definitely no need for heating but with outside temps expect to drop to 3C on Tuesday morning which mean 6-7C in the conservatory will rise to low 30's during the day to pump the warmth indoors.  Still wearing shorts inside but went to work today first time with my jumper on since early April.

What is your central heating thermostat showing? Sometimes they not accurate. Mine is showing 20 now but its definitely colder than that.  In fact to trigger the central heating to come on this evening I had to increase the gauge to 22 

A comfortable 20C indoors despite quite a lot of cloud yesterday afternoon.

I live in a council flat and my central heating doesn't have an actual thermostat attached to that as far as I can see which will give me an actual indoor temperature reading. When my heating is switched on, I can set that to a certain temperature but I can only do that for each of the individual heating units in my flat (there are two of those with one in my living room and another one in my hall).

Having said that though, it has been feeling very warm in my flat just lately which suggests that the temperature of 20.0°C which I reported yesterday might not have been far away from being correct.

That said, last night was a lot colder outside with our first official air frost of the season even being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank (I will post more details of that on this week's CC thread) and the result of this is that it no longer feels as warm in here this morning. As a result, I might now consider putting my heating on but even with that, it's still not feeling all that cold in here.

I leave the Central Heating timer on all year round and the thermostat set to 20C. It still has not come on once this year since before summer

Thanks to the chilly nights my heating has now been on for 3 hours and 41 minutes so far this month. That includes a test run earlier in the month as it had not been on since spring.

Mine came on this morning for the first time this season. It came on for 15 minutes.
