Perhaps likely to fall back a little by the end of next week?

Philip Eden showing 9.7 up to yesterday (10th)

His data also nicely reflects the dull and wet month we've been experiencing

CET: (May 1-10): 9.7°C (-0.8 degC)
E&W Rain: (May 1-10): 40.8mm (194 per cent)
E&W Sun: (May 1-10): 28.5hr ( 43 per cent)

 http://www.climate-uk.com/

For a change, his figure us marginally higher than the MetO 9.6C

Very interesting data from Philip there. To put that in perspective my Hadley estimate up to the 10th is just 9.25C which is 0.37C below the provisional 9.62C issued by Hadley.

The past few days have been relatively warm, a little warmer than I expected. However, the next 7 days brings us a CET close to or below 10C every day which will see the CET fall back a little. After that it could turn quite a bit warmer with the CET about 1C above average each day.

Overall I now expect the CET to be at 10.05C by the 25th. If it were to be average thereafter the final CET would be about 10.6C. So we will still need some very warm weather to end the month if the CET is to reach 11C.

Just think, If this March had beaten 1957 and been the warmest on record, we could have been in with a shot of March warmer than May this year.

I suppose May could be worse!  It could have turned out like April, but we've been totally spoilt by March!  Crazy British weather!

Next month I'm going for a below freezing CET guess!  That'll teach it!

Just looked the first 11 days of this months are 3.5C below normal (11.9) here and rapidly approaching average rainfall amount (58mm).

It truly has been an awful May so far.

I know what you mean Caz. I went for 10.5C for this month and heaven forbid even that might have been too high.

I really hope for some improvement for June.

The last May here which failed to reach 20ºC was 1983. There must be a good chance of not reaching 20ºC for most parts of the country this month.

It could be worse, in 1972 some parts of the UK didn't reach 20ºC until July.

Some places have already made it to 20c, but the outlook doesn't give much hope for many places getting there.

There's a good chance that March will have a higher temperature than both April and May this year, in my back yard of course.

March reached 22.1c by the way.
