I think we appreciate that any amount of rain over the next couple of months isn't going to solve the drought problem, but at least it isn't being made worse.  Even if we don't get enough to top up ground water levels and rivers, at least it's come at the right time for farmers, at the beginning of the main growing season when crops need to get established.

This time last year local farmers were having to irrigate fields on a daily basis.  I saw a field being irrigated a couple of weeks ago but there's currently no need as we've had some very useful rain.

It will come - I would never be suprised if we had a wet May quite frankly.

Things have improved (a little) on the River Severn here. According to the EA, it's now at 0.87 metres -- still low for April, of course, but better than the 0.2-0.3 metres we had a few weeks ago!

In the scale of things that's a big improvement really

It's gonna try out completely by summer.   Allegedly ....

I've not been able to measure it, but where I live (Worthing) has had a good couple of falls of rain in the past 48 hours. Keep this up for another couple of weeks, and we might see a lot of the problems (reservoir & aquifer levels) at least temporarily alleviated.

Looking at the way the heavy showers are translating Eastwards i'd say you'll get quite a bit of rain this evening / tonight.

It's certainly looking good for this evening and tomorrow as well, down here anyway.

just over 80 mm for the month so far here in rutland and Rutland water is slowly but surely filling up again-pumping in since the 50mm rain event from two weeks back so i guess the nene and welland levels must be up to permit this.

I bet people who were wishing for rain will soon change their tune after a few months of unsettled weather.

Hasn't done anything else but rain here for quite a while, I don't mind so much but as long as July's dry I'll be happy, hols in (cringe) sunny Cornwall, will it be though?

16.6mm of rain yesterday and another 3mm this morning, bringing our April total to a very useful 61mm, which is already the biggest monthly total we've had in the past two years!  That has to be good news for the farmers, the reservoirs and ground water levels, though we're still a long way short of annual totals.

Although I hate this grey weather, I don't mind if it rains for another couple of weeks, as long as it doesn't carry on till autumn!  We're due a really good summer!

This rain is frustrating. What we need now is for the government to warn of imminent flooding so that we can get back into our drought.

If we can pin together some solid, unrelenting rain for a number of hours that is a possibility, as the ground is so hard around my way that the rain doesn't really penetrate. the last hard shower we had, couple of days ago, briefly turned my lawn area not into a swamp but a reservoir.

The rain and showers is all good stuff I reckon. Plenty of fun to be had with the puddles and taxis in London today. And pleasant on the occasions when the sun shone through.

April is known for it's showers.

We've had a couple of weeks of showery weather after 19 months of the driest weather on record. It would be nice to get some sun coming through in May and hot sunny weather in summer (a rainy April is no more relevant to a sunny summer than a sunny March is a predictor of a rainy April).

But even a rainy April will not do a great deal to resolve drought problems longer term. What will really count is persistent wet weather during autumn and winter.
