Struggling to understand how the forecast is predicted at TWO.

Until yesterday & today, RG29 prediction was correct - snow Saturday night & into Sunday, which is falling now.

But for the last 24 hours or more, the forecast on the site remains incorrect - rain.

Is TWO really just a forecast for 'extreme' weather enthusiasts, rather than casual observers who can read a synoptic chart, but aren't going to go much further?

Or is TWO for everyone?

A bit disapointed in the poor predictions at TWO for the last 6 months or so - Met Office and BBC far more accurate?

Hi, on the TWO  forecast page it explains that the discussion forecasts are handwritten and updated regularly and for the graphical forecasts "we take a data feed from the GFS forecasting model which goes out to t+384 hours. Our software then processes the data and produces the forecasts."

Hope that helps.

I've always found location forecasts made using model data rather unreliable when the synoptics are of a more unnusual nature. It reflects how the models perform.

Written forecasts take more time, but give a far better idea of how things may unfold. TWO has some of the best around, arguably the very best

Thanks, that helps a great deal.

So basically, TWO is great for the long term forecast and is generally one of the better sources for that, but for short term, metoffice sources would be the better option.

Good to see that there's no snobbery going on at TWO - many forums on more advanced, cerebral topics, often bring out the rude elitists.
