As soon as it finishes, the process begins all over again. Expectations are raised as a summer of transfer speculation and activity begins

It will be interesting to see how well AFC Wimbledon do in League 2 next season.

Indeed. I'm also curious to see how Crawley get on. They are bookies favourites to go straight up to League One. Also interested to see if Bristol Rovers get relegated again and go bust  Rich

Silly season has started early. We've already been linked with every single player to have ever kicked a ball, something the club are keen to knock on the head given this report in tonights local rag

Quote:

BRISTOL City today rubbished reports suggesting they are in the market for defenders Ryan Bennett and Joel Lynch.

The Championship club have been linked with the pair by various media sources in recent days, with Sky Sports alleging a firm offer for Nottingham Forest left-back Lynch.
Robins boss Keith Millen is also rumoured to be showing interest in central defender Bennett, who became Peterborough United's record signing when he moved from Grimsby Town to London Road two seasons ago.
But a City spokesman has told the Evening Post these stories are wide of the mark and denies any move for either Lynch or Bennett.

He said: "I have an idea where these stories come from, but they are plain wrong.

"Keith Millen is working his way through lists of targets and has been doing so for some time. But these are names that have simply not featured at all. This time of year is not known as the 'silly season' for no reason and there are a lot of agents putting names about because they want to generate interest in their players.

"Unfortunately, some in the media are only too happy to turn rumours into firm stories and these are, in most cases, misleading.

"It is not helpful but, in these days of internet forums and websites, it has become part and parcel of the game."

When asked if there was any truth in rumours linking City with Montenegro youth international defender Danilo Sarkic, the Ashton Gate source admitted: "That is a name we have never even heard of!"

The Post understands Millen did show interest in Forest youngster Lynch earlier in the year, making an enquiry during the January transfer window, at a time when regular left-back Jamie McAllister was sidelined by injury. But Forest were not prepared to allow Lynch to leave and City's manager has since turned his search elsewhere.

As revealed in the Evening Post earlier this month, Billy Jones remains Millen's number one target as he seeks to provide competition for McAllister, whose position as first-choice left-back has been virtually unchallenged for five seasons.
Out of contract at the end of last season, the former Crewe defender is refusing to sign a new deal for relegated Preston North End and is aware of City's interest.
There has already been contact between City and the 24-year-old's agent and Millen is monitoring the situation as it develops.

City's manager has made no secret of his desire to bolster a defence that was hit hard by injuries last season and he is in the market for a left-back, right-back and centre-half.

Millen has made public his desire to sign Tottenham's Steven Caulker, the England Under-21 international centre-back, who spent last season on loan at Ashton Gate.

He is also targeting Jordan Spence, the West Ham United right-back, who made such a good impression while on loan at City during the final two months of the Championship campaign.
Spence is out of contract at Upton Park and must wait until the Hammers appoint a new manager to succeed the sacked Avram Grant before he knows whether he will be offered new terms.

Meanwhile, City target Yannick Bolasie was due at Ashton Gate today for talks with new Robins chairman Colin Sexstone.
League Two strugglers Plymouth Argyle have accepted a cut-price bid for the 22-year-old winger and French-born Bolasie will become a City player within the next 24 hours, providing he agrees personal terms and passes a medical examination

Never heard of the boy Bolasie, but he was their player of the season and top scorer. Apparently he's a very similar player to Albert Adomah who absolutely shone for us this season and was our player of the season. If he's half as good he'll be a bargain. Not sure where he fits into our fully fit squad though as we already have two right wingers that will be in front of him in the pecking order. Adomah being one of them. One for the future I imagine.

I'd love to think we had a chance of getting Caulker, but it just aint going to happen. Spence is a possibility, but WHU will probably fight hard to keep him in a squad that is bound to be stripped this summer

Caulker is still a possible loan IMO. I don't see him breaking into the Spurs first team in the upcoming season, although I could be wrong.

Rose though is definitely out of the mix. 'Arry sees him, ironically, as a LB understudy to BAE. So he'll probably be at WHL, again.

Was a strange situation with Rose. He started well with us and then completely faded. By the time he left fans were generally glad to see the back of him. Here's the thing, though, we played him as a midfielder. He goes back to WHL and plays in defence

Caulker was only pipped to player of the season by Adomah. He was outstanding. He left saying he would like an opportunity to be at the club next season, but in the next breath said his goal was Prem football next season. I can see him at somewhere like QPR on loan. Two min up the road and he gets his chance to see what he can do in the Prem

dont think we'll go bust our debt is not that big and is not with the banks as I understand (its with the directors) all sorts of silly forum rumours going on at the mo regarding the club moving to Rolls royce or UWE rather than re developing the mem, with sainsbury's mentioned as buying the mem. cant see it myself, as for the team well total rebuild this summer just hope we dont import the Torquay team no disrespect meant but Id like to see paul Buckle build a new team completely. So as i posted in the previous thread promotion straight back to div 1  with resumption of local derby season 2012/2013

Like many fans, I thought WTF? when 'Arry started playing Rose at LB. But in fairness to 'Arry (whom I'm no great fan of) he would appear to have called this one correctly. Rose has been a revelation at LB. Let's see if it continues next season.

As for Caulker, ending up at QPR is plausible. Warnock reportedly wants Naughton and Walker on loan. Well he's whistling in the dark as far as Walker is concerned. Naughton though is feasible and Caulker would be, assuming 'Arry and Levy tell Warnock to sod off regarding Walker. I could never see Spurs loaning three players to the same team in the current situation.

I thought Bellamy was in the frame? I bloody hope so as I wouldn't 'Arry to raid the sweetshop for that no-necked useless lump.

According to Real Radio this evening, Bellamy has no coaching badges and they want someone experienced

All based around people betting because of a thread on the Crapdiff forum. However, MoN's stock has fallen sharply in recent years. Maybe he'd fancy a challenge with Crapdiff very much starting from scratch. I don't think their fans could stomach Bellamy. He's not popular there. My tip, Hughton

Mackail-Smith looks finally set to leave the Football League and become a Premier League player. The question is who with?

I think it'll be QPR.

Should prove interesting to see what Antonov does with Portsmouth. Lots of dosh? Or another ownership mirage?

However, after completing his purchase for an undisclosed sum from the Hong Kong businessman Balram Chainrai, the 36-year-old Antonov can only see good times ahead.

More paper talk:

Quote:
Blackpool left-back Stephen Crainey will open talks this week about joining ambitious Bristol City on a free transfer.

Crainey has rejected terms at the Seasiders, where he would have to take a large drop in salary, and is now clear to speak to their Championship rival Robins, who have made an official approach.

The Scotland international was hoping to stay in the Premier League, but wealthy City are offering a deal that is top-flight level and he looks set to sign shortly.

He was my tip further up this page. Worth a shot I think. Ok, Crapdiff ain't Newcastle who went up to the prem with virtually the same side that came down, but he's respected and seems screwed on
