I seem to recall that back in the winter months there was a winter moaning thread for people to vent their frustration at the lack of wintry weather and precipitation.
Isn't it about time we had one for the summer of 2012.
For me, the summer so far has been absolutely dire. The later part of spring was also a nightmare (April to mid May) with only a two week period at the end of May when we had lots of warmth and sunshine down here in the south east. Since then the weather has been extremely unsettled and outrageously windy!!
I work as a landscape gardener and I have lost several days work due to the poor wet weather. Also the wind has been playing havoc with planting schemes and causing damage to several gardens!
I am sick to death of the wind, most days recently it is like working in a wind tunnel and my nerves are completely frayed at the end of a 10 hour working day!
Really IMHO the weather of 2012 has been shockingly bad so far, particularly for the south east, which in general is used to a more stable continental style climate.
Summer has also been terrible so far and whilst I realise that we have the rest of June, July and august for things to improve, I don't hold out much hope.
I think we have put up with enough of this crap and volatile weather and it is about time we had something along the lines of 1976, 2003 or even 2006.
What do people think...and is it all down to a misplaced jet stream?
Snowjoke
I'm actually enjoying what's been offered so far
Looks like you've just opened the summer moaning thread SJ - so hopefully the mods will let this run.
Have to agree with you, although still very early days and two thirds of summer still to come....
But so far, I have to say this has been without a doubt the worst start to a summer that I can remember, and coupled with a dreadful April and most of May, it really has been unrelenting.
Playing cricket yesterday in conditions more akin to November was not pleasant. Sightscreen blew over in a gust of wind that just missed a fielder - could have been very nasty....This really shouldn't have any place in June.
Cold is one thing, wet is another, but cold, wet and windy really is getting me down.
Already my summer LRF is bust - and I just hope things can pick up in July and August - although based on current models and patterns, I'm not holding my breath.
Matt's indicating that summer may be on hold for quite a while(twitter)
As I said in M.O., 21'C with light winds is decent enough but theres been precious little of that on offer
I think as far as I'm concerned it's the cumulative effect: looking back over the last five summers (15 summer months) here only two months have managed above average sunshine (August 2007 & June 2010) and even at that it was barely above average on both occasions. The other 13 have all been below average with two all-time records set for lowest sunshine totals in the given month (June 2007 and August 2008). [Leuchars figures].
Tells it all really!
Good thread and hopefully it will take some of the emotional crap out of the model output thread.
I think a bit of emotion in the model thread is OK duane, goodness knows you spit ur dummy out often enough.
For normal people who like outdoor activity in summer im afraid its looking like another diabolical summer is on the cards.for oddballs (like Younger Dryas/Stone cold/Retron)who like it wet and miserable its looking like another great summer.
There is absolutely NO WAY in hell the constant summer northern blocking/uk trough has not become embedded in recent years, something somewhere is driving it.
guess we will have to make the most of the odd day here and there, ive read many times because of our location our weather will always be a bit of this a bit of that and plenty of this=rain....thats life in the UK.....tbh before i had the internet for any extended weather forecast i just watched countryfile,it seems now we have so much imformation to go on that it only adds to the disappointment....charts that take us x amount of hours away, give us hope then take it away again, ive tried not to look but like everyone on here keep doing it...OCD can be a terrible thing when one of you obsessions is the weather!maybe just maybe for a change when the kids break up for their summer holidays the weather will settle down somewhat....and Spurs will win the prem

We oddball's sitting here festering away and aching to get out there in the wild do not like this type of summer. Not decent so far...Bring back Autumn. We Know to expect this weather then!!!!!
Only in winter or if a classic thundery plume get pushed away at the last minute during summer.
If Richard from aberdeen still posted on here? This thread would get filled up pretty quickly
Personally I am enjoying how cool it is so far. (Just what I prefer) could stay like this all summer and I would be in heaven to be honest
Absolutely woeful excuse for a summer here. Not one day above 20c all month is just ridiculous.
You morphed into YD there Andy?
I think Beauforts post is about right
I don't mind the heat, don't mind the cold, don't even mind the rain, but this bloody wind thats forever blowing depresses me more than anything. Today is an odd day, no wind, so there must be something bad coming.
Jesus!! ANd I thought it was bad here!
I was in San Fran for EXACTLY the 8 nice days at the end of May, so I simply have not seen a single in-the-garden-with-the-kids days this summer. In all seriousness, this will be what makes me considering leaving the UK.
