I live at the South Coast (well, more towards the east) and it has been grim the whole day. Dull, overcast and damp with occasional drizzle. Sometimes the hills to the north of the town were shrouded in low cloud. Also quite cold at 11.3 C currently.

''At' not 'the' lol :D

To be fair the Solent region probably is the best coastal place in the country for good weather. Here in Pompey it was a nice (breezy) afternoon high teens and strong sunshine. Cloudy but bright start, it's ended a bit more gloomy and I think rain might not be to far away.

Local weather station recorded a peak UV level at 7.8, this was at 13:09. This is the strongest so far this year.

Curious question: Can anybody tell me what kinds of clouds magnify the UVlevels and can the pollution of a dirty euro high actually filter out the UV a little?? Please :-)

A remarkable day here. Not even a glipse of sun and although the sun doesn't set for a couple of hours it looks like dusk here, it's very gloomy. The high was 12.0C, one of the coldest June days of my lifetime.

It just goes to show, even in summer if you can get rid of the sun (no mean feat with 16 hours of daylight!) you can get a rather wintry feel to things.

Incidentally, the 850 temperature at noon was +4C here. A similar 850 temperature in December would have given a similar daytime high, which is fascinating considering the difference in solar altitude and daylight length.

For me, it is weather like this that makes living in the UK so fascinating.  Here near Reading we have had a dismal day.  To hear of the weather variances across the region just shows how little it can take to alter perceptions .. Alton is not so far away!  Now if the powers that be had not shifted the Bank Holiday would we really have worried too much about this weekend ?  Or would we just have been glad for a dump of rain after 10 dry days .. and looked forward to the convective activity to come ?

Take your pick ..

Max of just 10ºC and providing it doesn't start to rise again in the next few hours, it will be the equal coldest summer day on record here along with June 10th 1977.

Long sunny periods here in Nairn, Scotland, today, after some heavy showers overnight. It has been quite windy and chilly by the coast, but inland at Loch Ness (where we were this afternoon) it was quite pleasant. The sky was really dark blue as well, very little pollution or haze compared to at home.

There has been rain here for most of the day. Most of it was very fine but persistent drizzle, the type that seems innocuous enough, but somehow manages to make you very wet. It did not always show up on the met radar either! Obviously cool and cloudy. Seems a fair whack of heavier precipitation is soon to come my way in the next few hours looking at the latest radar...:)

Looking at the radar the heaviest rain has been almost stalled over an area close to luton- Milton Keynes

Possibly some local flooding-

Yes it was a very miserable day for us here, heating on and indoors all day.
