What if Martinez decides not to take the job now? The next person Liverpool talk with is going to know they weren't the first choice. I'm just as livid at the Liverpool owners for not insisting on Martinez gagging himself until he'd made the decision. At best they've been naive in thinking Martinez wouldn't blab to the wi*an wa*ker.
And even if Martinez does decide to take the job, Wheelibin's already stolen Liverpool's privilege to announce it.
Anfield is like an Ealing comedy these days, and even two-bit, sh*tty clubs in two-bit, sh*tty towns like wi*an are trumping them.
Genuine question. Given all that's going on at the moment is there anyone actually in charge of transfer dealings?
The way things are shaping up at the moment the usual suspects are going to be doing a lot of their business early this year. That could have an impact further down the line.

The cold, hard truth is that you've got Citeh who've spent the GDP of a small country and will likely spend close to another £100m this closed season. Man U are also looking like spending big again, going toe to toe for Hazard and picking up Kagawa. Then there's Chelski, also chasing Hazard (and will go for a similar player if they miss out) and bidding £35m for Hulk. There's even a chance that tight-Arsenal might dip into their pockets and invest in some players.
Liverpool are already well behind these 3 and need major investment to compete. There's talk of a new manager having a kitty of just £30m. That would buy one striker in the '8 out of 10' bracket (unless the same clown who paid £35m for Carroll is let loose again, in which case we'd probably pay that for Darren Bent)
Yet the Liverpool heirarchy are demanding a minimum result of CL football?
It's completely unrealistic. I'd wager my house that 3 of the top 4 will be City, Man U and Chelski. So that means competing with Arsenal, Spurs (who may go backwards next year if Modric and/or Bale leave) and probably at least one other who 'do a Newcastle'. I wouldn't back Liverpool.

This season, Liverpool finished 18 points off Champions League qualification.Given that they dropped an unbelievable 21 points at Anfield, and drew just one match away from home, it is entirely possible that they can achieve their goal come next May. Restore the home form, convert a few away defeats into draws, and it’s achievable. Top 3 as you say, with Arsenal probably nibbling away, but I don't think Liverpool will be too far adrift. Don't write them off just yet!

Agreed. Thing is, all of the clubs above them, including Spurs, will be improving their squads, so the gap will be difficult to bridge.

Well Liverpool will certainly improve - no doubt about that. Top 6 certainly.
Apart from the Mancs no one has a gimme for a Top 4 finish.

Flash in the pan would seem to be the answer, they punched well above their seeming weight this time gone.
Although a settled team can play well if they all gell together, it all depends I suppose on whether too much meddling happens in the close season.
Liverpool are reportedly in talks with experienced Dutch coach Louis van Gaal with a view to appointing him as sporting director.
The often volatile coach has been spending the summer at his house near Albufeira in the Algarve, and the Telegraph understands that Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s managing director, flew out to meet him last week.
Van Gaal is used to be in sole charge of a club, but Liverpool are seemingly attempting to lure him into a different role – that of the much derided position in England, ‘director of football’.
