Several clematis got frost damage to their leaves and some buds when we went down to about -3°C in early April, along with some transient snow, which is why I am a little concerned now.

I accidentally dug up my newish clematis last year and it is only slowly gaining health again! It has however survived a number of frosts in the last few weeks so I think should be hardy enough to get through this weekend.

As for air temperatures, here we may be a little close to the sea with a breeze to get any significant frosts but there could be a few notably low temperatures inland (sub -5° possibly)

My thoughts too, however nothing will be unduly damaged here as no soft stuff goesout till June anyway.
It will be quite a check to the cow's grass though.
We seem to get at least one or two keen frosts every May most notable recently being 2010 when 11th,12th and 13th were very cold with lowest being -4.4C

We got down to -3.9C here on 13th May 2010, should be interesting to see if we get near or beat that.

From a gardeners perspective I can see how frosts in May would be bad..

But since I'm not a gardener I'm just going to be completely selfish.

The new turf on our lawn has been cut down to the same length as the rest of the garden now here, but I doubt it will get that cold really here. I remember the morning of 4th May 2011 was a pretty chilly one here for May. Min temp of 0.9c.

Wales and the Midlands were plagued by cloud last night.

I've recorded my lowest May temperature, but I have not been recording for very long so that's easy to do. That means we have had 3 May's with air frost on the trot in my location.

The difference is May 2012 hasn't got to 10C yet (but might today)

 A few pockets of air frost and some snow showers in Scotland.  Another "Daily Express" episode - in other words another over hyped non event.

Not so much a non-event just not worthy of a full page write up in the Express! It has been unseasonably cold in quite a few places over the last couple of nights and even snow showers to low level are unusual to sea level in Scotland in May. Not a news story but worth a comment.

Given that the coldest temperature on the 100+ year record for the 6th of May is -5.6°C, this morning's -4 in places in unusually cold, as was yesterday's overall low of -6.2°C.

-4.5c, 0.1c lower than my record (only been living here 5 years)

Thankfully i brought all the tenders from the greenhouse indoors

Upto 7.1c already now in the strong sunshine,however lots of convective cloud now developing

On further investigation I see that we were only 0.4°C off the date record with the lowest I can find being Tulloch Bridge at -5.2°C.

Kinbrace -5.5 last night

Across in the Republic some very low temperatures around Dublin. 

 Casement Aerodrome -3.6

 Dublin Airport -3.0.

 

Friday night/Saturday morning's min was -6.2C at Saughall in South Ayrshire.
