The ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic model (ICON) is a global numerical weather prediction model run by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) which is the German equivalent of the UK Met Office. The model is highly regarded and verification statistics show that it performs very well.
On TheWeatherOutlook (TWO) a selection of charts generated from the ICON model data is now freely available. The charts update four times each day and go out to 120 hours ahead. The data used is from the "zoomed in" high resolution ICON EU nest which provides a horizontal forecast resolution of 6.5km. In other words the model has the potential to identify differences in the weather over short distances, for example between locations in London such as Hyde Park and Tower Bridge.

Updates on our website are every 6 hours and take place at approximately 04:00, 10:00, 16:00 and 22:00 GMT.
It is our intention to increase the amount of ICON based charts and data on TWO so look out for further updates.
At the present time the ICON charts are not available on the native Android and IOS apps but they should be included in the next release.
ICON charts are a fabulous addition on TWO. They are made freely available and permission is granted to:
1) Link to the ICON chart viewer (https://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twodata/icon.aspx)
2) Copy individual charts and use them on social media or web pages as long as it is not for financial gain. Please also credit TheWeatherOutlook as the chart source and provide a link back to our website (https://www.theweatheroutlook.com).
