A major change is expected to develop by the end of the coming week. Initially there will be plenty of fine weather, although scattered showers are likely to become heavy and thundery. However, by the weekend high pressure will finally begin to lose its grip, opening the door to disturbances from the Atlantic. These are likely to bring significant amounts of rain, especially in the north and west.

UKV, Tuesday 20th May [Tap animation to toggle cities]
During the next few days there will be warm spells of sunshine. However, heavy showers are possible at first, particularly in southern Britain.
In the longer term more unsettled conditions are expected to develop as high pressure declines. Disturbances will begin moving in from the Atlantic, bringing the likelihood of significant amounts of rain. The wettest conditions can be expected in the north and west. Drier and warmer spells are more likely in the south, as high pressure attempts to build northeastwards from the Azores.
