The settled period continues this weekend, but there are growing signs that a more changeable pattern may return next week. Have we used up our allocation of fine weather for the summer? That’s not how the weather works! The most important thing to note at this stage is that no one can say with any real confidence how the next few months will play out.
Issued 13th May 2025
More settled weather this weekend! Today sunny periods develop widely, with low cloud generally lifting quite quickly, although it may be more stubborn near the east coast.
Temperatures range from 14°C near the east coast to 23°C in the north west. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

UKV, Saturday 17th May [Tap animation to toggle cities]
Tonight it remains dry, but low cloud is likely to push into eastern and central areas. In the west temperatures could locally dip low enough for a ground frost.
Tomorrow it's a very similar picture, although isolated showers may develop in Scotland. In much of the UK it remains fine, with low cloud in central and eastern areas lifting. Warm in the sunshine, especially in the west.
UKV, Sunday 18th May [Tap animation to toggle cities]
During the next few days it will remain dry in much of the UK. However, there is a growing risk of scattered showers, initially in the west and then perhaps extending more widely across the south.
In the longer term more changeable weather looks set to return. High pressure is forecast to decline, leading to an increased likelihood of areas of low pressure beginning to move towards the UK. These bring the potential for heavy showers and longer outbreaks of rain. However, there are also indications that it could turn very warm at times in central and eastern England.
