The weather will remain changeable during the coming days, but the forecast details for the Easter period are still uncertain. Some recent computer model runs have shown high pressure having more influence than previously expected. If that turns out to be the case longer dry periods could develop.

Heavy rain pushing northwards

Heavy outbreaks of rain steadily push northwards through the day. This afternoon they will be affecting northern Wales, northern England, the southern half of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Central and eastern counties of England should remain mostly dry, although some patchy rain is possible for a time this morning. It will be windy, especially in southern and central areas.

Cold in the north and west. Temperatures range from 7°C in the north to 15°C in the south east and East Anglia. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight the rain will slowly clear northwards. All areas have clear spells by the end of the night, and it will be quite cold with a risk of ground frost.

Tomorrow there could be a few showers; however, most places have a dry and bright day. It will feel pleasantly warm in sunny spells.

Mixed Easter period

The Easter period is looking mixed. On Good Friday, outbreaks of rain are expected to spread northwards across western Britain and Northern Ireland. Central and eastern areas will probably remain mostly dry, although there is some uncertainty about this.

The prospects for the weekend and Bank Holiday Monday remain uncertain. Recent computer model runs suggest the possibility of longer dry periods than had previously seemed likely. Nonetheless some rain is expected, with the wettest conditions probably in the west.
