The rather cold period continues today, but there should be more brightness than recently. Tonight, that means a risk of frost becoming more widespread. In the coming days a change gradually begins to take place as milder air pushes up from the southwest. The transition will probably be slow and in the north there is a risk of snow at times as weather fronts bump into the colder air. Tonight, clear periods allow frost to develop more widely than recently. In the Scottish glens temperatures could dip as low as -7°C.
Tomorrow, it remains rather cold, but sunny spells should develop quite widely. In the afternoon thicker cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain push into the south west.

On Friday a band of rain weakens as it slowly pushes northeastwards. By late afternoon it is expected to be affecting Northern Ireland, south western England and Wales, where sleet or snow is likely over high ground. Areas to the north and east stay dry and quite cold. During the weekend another band of rain is expected to push up from the southwest. As the precipitation spreads northeastwards and meets the colder air there is a potential risk of snow in some areas, at least for a time.
