Wet and windy weather pushes northeastwards across the UK today. The unsettled period is expected to continue during the coming days, but there are signs of a change in the longer term. Wet and windy weather spreads northeastwards

A band of rain pushes northeastwards across the UK today. By late afternoon it will be affecting eastern and northern Britain, with sleet or snow possible over the Pennines and at lower levels in Scotland. Elsewhere, more showery conditions return. It will be very windy, particularly in wet areas where gales are possible.

Temperatures range from 5°C in the north to 11°C in the south west. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight the band of wet weather moves away northeastwards, but further heavy outbreaks of rain push across England and Wales, possibly reaching eastern Scotland by morning. It will be windy, especially in the south and west.

Tomorrow, a deep area of low pressure centered over Ireland keeps things unsettled. It will bring heavy showery spells of rain and strong winds, with the worst conditions in the west.

Change on the horizon

The unsettled period of weather is expected to continue during the first half of next week, with all regions likely to experience further wet and windy spells. In the longer term, there are signs of a shift as high pressure builds. It increases the likelihood of more settled conditions, particularly in the south.
