Christmas events are likely to be put on hold in parts of the UK during the next few days due to the fourth named storm of the season, Storm Darragh. Heavy rain and strong winds push eastwards today, but the worst conditions are likely to occur tonight and tomorrow. Issued 3rd December 2024
Outbreaks of heavy rain move across Northern Ireland this morning, wile Britain stays dry. However, the wet conditions quickly spread eastwards this afternoon, with sleet or snow possible in the north, especially over high ground. Flooding is expected to become an issue again in some areas. It will become windy, with gales affecting western coastal counties.
Temperatures range from 3°C in Scotland to 8°C in much of southern England, although in the south west it will be milder. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight, the initial band of wet weather clears eastward, but further heavy outbreaks of rain and hill snow in the north will spread eastward. The strongest winds will continue to affect northern and northwestern coastal counties, with severe gales possible.
Tomorrow, the heaviest rain will be concentrated on central and eastern counties, while the west turns brighter and showery. It will be very windy, possibly stormy, with gusts of up to 60 mph inland and 70–90 mph in coastal areas. In the strong winds and driving rain it will feel bitterly cold. Further flooding and travel disruptions are expected.
UK Met UKV, Saturday 7th December [Tap animation to toggle cities]
Things start to improve on Sunday as Storm Darragh pulls away eastwards, but it will remain windy, with further showery spells of rain affecting much of the UK. In the following days high pressure builds over the north of the UK. It brings more settled but still rather cold conditions. A brisk east or northeasterly wind in southern and central regions makes it feel raw.
