Heavy rain and strong winds

Outbreaks of rain clear southeastward to leave dry conditions for a time. However, further heavy spells of rain rattle in from the west and push across much of the UK during the afternoon. The rain will be heavy at times and accompanied by strong winds. Brighter and showery conditions follow, with the persistent rain clearing from the south east and East Anglia in the evening.

Temperatures range from 7°C in the east to 12°C in the south west. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight, the remnants of the rain should quickly clear from the southeast. All areas will then have clear spells, and in sheltered locations a touch of frost is likely by morning.

Tomorrow starts dry in virtually all areas. Through the day outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and into Britain. By the early evening it will probably still be dry in the east, but the band of rain will quickly move through, with showery conditions following. In the north the showers merge to give longer periods of heavy rain, and in Scotland snow is likely particularly over the mountains. Severe gale or even storm force winds are expected in western counties, particularly near the coast.

Stormy conditions gradually ease

Through the weekend the very stormy and windy conditions will gradually ease. On Saturday, severe gales are likely to cause further disruption in places, accompanied by heavy, showery periods of rain. In central and northern Scotland the risk of heavy snow remains. By Sunday the showers become more scattered and increasingly confined to eastern counties. With winds turning northerly, temperatures start to drop.
