If you're planning on putting up Christmas lights this weekend, today is likely to be the better of the two days in much of the UK. The north can expect showers today, but wet conditions are expected to be more widespread tomorrow. However, you won't need to wrap up, with temperatures widely in double figures and peaking close to 16°C in the south today. Outbreaks of rain in the north become increasingly showery through the day and some bright spells develop. In the rest of the UK it will be mostly dry and bright after early fog lifts, but scattered showers are likely in the west. Quite windy.

Tonight outbreaks of rain push eastwards. By the morning showery conditions return to much of western Britain and Northern Ireland. Mild and windy.
Tomorrow morning the rain clears from central and eastern counties. However, further bands of showers push in from the west through the course of the day. At times the rain becomes heavy. Mild.

During Monday outbreaks of rain clear southwards and it turns colder. In the north showers turn to sleet or snow, especially over higher ground. A widespread frost is likely to develop overnight. Tuesday and Wednesday are looking unsettled, with showers or longer outbreaks of rain. In the north there is a risk of sleet or snow.
