Issued 8th October 2024
An area of low pressure pushing across the northern half of the UK will bring more mixed weather today. Showery outbreaks of rain will be the heaviest and most frequent in the north, but the rain will push down into central and southern areas too at times. Over higher parts of the Scottish mountains it will be cold enough for snow.
Temperatures range from 6°C in the far north to 14°C in the south and brisk winds will make it feel chilly. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight the showers move away eastwards to leave dry conditions in most areas by the morning. Clearing skies allow temperatures to drop sharply and ground frost is likely to develop widely. In the northern half of Britain air frost could be widespread with temperatures falling below freezing point.
Tomorrow a ridge of high pressure brings dry conditions to most of the country. However, cloud will build and patchy rain is expected to reach Northern Ireland and western Scotland by the evening. After the cold start temperatures will remain on the low side.
UK Met UKV, Sunday 13th October [Tap animation to toggle cities]
The early part of next week brings some big changes. Winds switch to a southerly direction and the cold upper level air over the UK is pushed away. Therefore, it will be turning a good deal milder and it may even become quite warm. By Tuesday temperatures could be reaching 20°C in places, but the risk of heavy showers and possibly downpours will also be increasing, particularly in the west.
