Showers mostly affect northern and western areas today. Temperatures remain on the low side and a brisk winds adds to the chilly feel. Temperatures will be steadily recovering during the next few days, but it starts to turn more unsettled in the north. Showers in northern and western areas spread eastwards through the course of the day. However, they will be more scattered than yesterday, with many places remaining dry and bright. Despite the sunshine, blustery winds will make it feel chilly for mid September.

Tonight, showers fade away and long clear periods allow temperatures to dip sharply. Ground frost is expected to develop widely, even in parts of southern England. In frost pockets temperatures may dip below freezing point.
Tomorrow, scattered showers in Scotland steadily fade away to leave all parts of the UK dry and bright. However, cloud begins to builds in Northern Ireland and in the afternoon outbreaks of rain start to push in from the west. Temperatures remain on the low side.

During the weekend, outbreaks of rain steadily push down across the northern half of the UK. In southern and central regions it probably remains dry. Temperatures will also be climbing. A similar pattern is likely on Monday, with the greatest risk of rain in the north.
