Heavy and thundery outbreaks of rain affect much of England and Wales today, but there will be dry periods too. The wet conditions could extend into southern and eastern Scotland. Other parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland probably remain dry. The rain does lead to the potential for travel disruption in places.

Tonight, the heaviest of the rain slowly clears eastwards, although in much of England it is likely to remain damp. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be mostly dry.
Tomorrow, a transient ridge of higher pressure brings dry conditions to much of the UK. However, outbreaks of rain push into the north west later on.
UK Met UKV, Monday 9th September [Tap animation to toggle cities]
During Tuesday a band of rain pushes southeastwards. It is followed by showery conditions and in the north it will be very windy. Also, temperatures take a dip, so it will feel quite chilly for the time of the year. The showery conditions continue into the middle of the week, but high pressure is likely to steadily build in from the west. Cold nights could be a notable feature of the weather, with the risk of ground frost becoming widespread and air frost possible in the north for a time.
