Stormy mid week

During Wednesday a deep area of low pressure is expected to track across the northern half of the UK. It will bring very wet and windy conditions to much of the UK. The worst conditions look like being in the north and west, where gusts inland are likely to be between 50mph and 65mph and in western coastal counties speeds of around 75mph are possible. There is the potential for damaging winds and travel disruption.

Thursday may start mainly dry. However, another batch of wet and windy weather probably pushes in from the Atlantic later on.

Friday should see it turning drier and calmer in southern and central regions. In the north it probably remains quite windy and there could be patchy outbreaks of rain.
