The weekend will bring the hottest weather of the year so far with temperatures probably pipping 30C (86F). However, thundery downpours are expected too, with the greatest risk today in south and west. Early next week it remains hot. Saturday starts with a few showers in the south west. Elsewhere it is dry.

Through the day sunny periods develop widely, but thundery showers develop in southern and western Britain, and perhaps Northern Ireland. Downpours are possible in place, nonetheless, most of the UK has a fine day and it is set to be the hottest of the year so far.

Temperatures range from 18C (64F) in the north east to a hot 31C (88F) in southern and central counties. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight thundery downpours become focused on north west England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In other areas it remains dry. Staying quite warm, particularly in the south.

Tomorrow thundery showers are expected to be most likely in northern and western areas. Central and eastern counties have another fine day. Very warm or hot, with temperatures peaking at close to 30C (86F) in England.

Thundery showers continue

Monday probably brings thundery showers to the north and west again. Central and eastern counties should have fine conditions again. Very warm or hot.

Computer models are suggesting mostly fine and hot conditions on Tuesday, although scattered thunderstorms are possible. Temperatures again peak at close to 30C (86F) in southern and central regions.

The very warm period continues on Wednesday. Once again temperatures could reach 30C (86F).
