Temperatures continue rising in the short term and they are likely to exceed 30C (86F) for the first time this year. However, the risk of thundery downpours increases too, so if you're planning a barbecue or other outdoor activities this weekend then keep an eye on the place or postcode forecasts. Friday starts dry, but there is a lot of cloud in central and eastern counties.
Through the day sunny periods develop widely, although it probably remains cloudier in the north east. However, there is a chance of scattered showers developing in southern and central counties as the heat begins to build.
Temperatures range from a cool 13C (55F) in the north east to a very warm 28C (82F) in southern Britain. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers continue to affect the south west. Other parts of the UK will be dry and in the south it will be quite warm.
Tomorrow thundery showers are expected to become more widespread, but their focus is likely to be western England and Wales. However, many places probably miss them to have a dry and sunny day. It will be hot in southern and central regions with temperatures exceeding 30C (86F) in places. Computer models are suggesting that 33C (91F) isn't out of the question. In the north it won't be as warm, nonetheless, 27C (81F) may be reached locally in Scotland.
Through Sunday thundery showers are possible in much of the UK, but there will be long sunny periods too. Feeling very warm and humid, with temperatures climbing towards or even above 30C (86F) again.
Monday is looking like another very warm day. Thundery showers are possible in the south and north, but for many it remains fine.
Forecast details for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are subject to change. Thundery showers may continue, but there should be a good deal of warm or very warm spells of sunshine.
