Temperatures rise during the next few days, but so does the risk of thunderstorms. It's possible that 30C (86F) could be reached in the UK for the first time this summer. However, if you're planning a barbecue or other outdoor activities this weekend then keep an eye on the place or postcode forecasts because there may well be some downpours to dodge. Thursday starts dry, but there is a lot of cloud in central and eastern counties.
Through the day it remains cloudy in the north east, but in other areas sunny spells develop widely. The best of them will be in the south and west.
Temperatures range from 13C (55F) near the east coast to 26C (78F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.
The headline is for a warmer than average summer. Rainfall amounts are expected to vary significantly across the UK, but despite the dry start a slightly wetter than average season is favoured. Read the seasonal forecast in full.

Tonight it will be dry. However, cloud builds in from the east again.
Tomorrow is likely to be the warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures in the south peaking at between 28C (82F) and 30C (86F). The highest values will probably be in the south west, however, during the afternoon a few showers may develop. Other areas stay dry and bright, although cloud near to the east coast could be persistent.
During Saturday thundery showers develop in the southern half of Britain. They are expected to be localised, but there is a possibility of downpours in places. The north has a dry and bright day. Temperatures could reach 31C (88F) in southern and central counties.
Sunday is looking mixed. Thundery showers are possible in much of the UK, but there will be sunny periods too. Feeling very warm and humid, with temperatures climbing towards 30C (86F) again.
Forecast details for early part of next week are subject to change. Thundery showers may continue, but there should be a good deal of warm or very warm spells of sunshine.
