The meteorological summer starts on a dry and settled note today. Very little changes in the coming days as high pressure continues to be the major feature of the UK's weather. The TWO summer forecast covering June, July and August is now online, so read on for more information. Issued 1st June 2023
Thursday starts dry across virtually the whole of the UK. However, thicker cloud is producing an odd spot of rain in north eastern Britain.
Through the day cloud breaks and sunny spells develop widely. The best of them are likely to be in the west, and that is where it will be the warmest. Breezy in southern and central counties.
Temperatures range from a cool 12C (54F) in the north east to a pleasantly warm 23C (73F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.
The headline is for a warmer than average summer. Rainfall amounts are expected to vary significantly across the UK, but despite the dry start a slightly wetter than average season is favoured. Read the seasonal forecast in full.

Tonight clear spells in the north allow temperatures to dip quite sharply and there could be a touch of frost in places. Cloudier skies further south keep it less chilly.
Tomorrow it's another dry day nationwide and sunny spells should develop widely. Temperatures will be similar to today's values.
The settled weather continues this weekend. Cloud amounts vary, but the warmest and sunniest periods generally remain reserved for western areas.
Monday could see an odd shower bubbling up in the north. Southern and central regions have another dry and bright day.
Computer models continue to suggest that high pressure will keep things settled through the first third of June. There are tentative indications of the rain risk starting to increase from around June 10th, but that is a long way off still.
