Temperatures will be dipping through the coming days as an easterly flow becomes established across the UK. Computer models are suggesting the possibility of a lengthy spell of colder than average weather, but at the moment snow isn't being signposted. However, that could change as we head into December and winter starts to dig in.

Tuesday starts dry across the UK and there is fog in places. In the north and west there has been a patchy frost.

Through the day it remains dry but fog may be slow to lift. The brightest conditions are likely to be in Scotland and northern England.

Feeling colder than recently. Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow it turns wet in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it will be dry and in places sunny spells develop. Quite cold in the north and east, milder in the south west.

Rather cold outlook

Through Thursday patchy spells of rain may spread across the northern half of the UK. The southern half of the UK probably has cloudy skies but it should stay dry. Rather cold.

During Friday light bursts of rain in Wales and the north steadily fade away. There could also be showers in the south east and East Anglia. Dry elsewhere. Feeling chilly, particularly in the south eastern corner.

Forecast details for the weekend are uncertain. At the moment it looks quite cold and there could be wet weather in places.
