Easterly but not beasterly

The coming week will bring a lot of dry weather to most of the UK as high pressure builds over Scandinavia. Temperatures are expected to steadily dip, but the lack of cold air over continental Europe means that comparisons with the Beast From The East period in February 2018 are misplaced at the moment.

Monday starts with showers in southern and western coastal counties. Elsewhere it is dry.

Through the day showers become more widespread in England and Wales but many places miss them. The northern half of the UK will be mainly dry, although there are likely to be a few showers in western Scotland. Quite windy in the south west.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers face away to leave it dry in all areas. Clear spells in the north and west lead to a widespread frost and fog will form in places too. Milder in central and eastern England.

Tomorrow it remains dry and there will be sunny spells, especially in the north. However, in much of southern and central Britain it remains murky. Feeling rather cold. In the evening and overnight fog may develop quite widely.

Mostly settled and chilly

Wednesday is expected to be dry in the bulk of the UK, although it could be drizzly in southern and eastern coastal counties. Fog may be slow to lift and if it lingers temperatures will be pegged back.

Through Thursday patchy spells of rain may push into the north west of the UK. There could also be scattered showers in eastern Britain. Elsewhere it should be dry with variable amounts of cloud. Feeling chilly.

Through the rest of the week there should be a good deal of dry, quiet and rather cold weather. Forecast details are uncertain and there is a possibility of rain in the south west and north west.
