A band of wet and windy weather pushes southeastwards bringing many places their first gales of the autumn. Tomorrow showers continue in the north and on Sunday longer outbreaks of rain could push across southern counties. Early next week the mixed theme continues.

Friday begins wet and windy in the north west. Elsewhere it is dry.

Through the day the area of heavy rain and strong winds quickly pushes down across the UK, although it may not reach the south eastern corner until the late afternoon. Gales force winds are likely, particularly in exposed coastal locations. Brighter conditions follow into much of the north and west but there will be showers in places.

Temperatures range from 9C (48F) in the north west to 17C (63F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the wet weather clears from the south east and winds ease. Clear periods develop but there will be showers in the north west.

Tomorrow is looking showery in northern and western areas. In the south and east it should be mainly dry. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average, but blustery winds make it feel chilly.

Mixed early next week

During Sunday outbreaks of rain could push eastwards across southern Britain. There may also be a few showers in the north west, but in other areas it stays dry and bright. Temperatures close to the seasonal average, although it is likely to be cool in the wet parts of the south.

Monday is currently looking dry in most areas, although there is a risk of it turning wet in the north west. Temperatures close to the norm.

The latest guidance is pointing towards a good deal of dry and weather during Tuesday and Wednesday in the south. Temperatures may climb into the low 20Cs. In the north and west it remains more changeable with an ongoing risk of showers or longer spells of rain.
